Cretive Writing Essy Prompt 8

9. Many junior high and high schools around the country now require students to spend a certain number of hours each term doing volunteer work or community service. Some people believe this is an excellent idea that promotes good citizenship and cultivates passion. Others feel that forced volunteerism is not volunteerism at all. How do you feel about the issue? Use specific reasons and examples to supply your position.

Volunteering is volunteering not matter how you want to look at it or discuss it. I personally that everyone should to help better our world, but I’m not trying to sound like an afterschool special. The cliché the chivalry is dead does not have to apply to everyone because believe it or not it is always good to help someone in need of it. As an example (I helped a crippled person onto the bus because they couldn’t get on the ramp properly knowing that I didn’t have to and I wasn’t even riding the bus). I didn’t do it to get something in return I did it because it was right and if I was in trouble I would want someone to help me if I was in need. It can’t be helped that everyone needs help now and then.
For those who feel forced volunteerism isn’t volunteerism at all I get where you’re coming from, but if you feel that way why do you call it volunteerism then? In the end you still have to choose what you want to put your time into, so that is one thing there aren’t forcing you to do. It’s not like they making you volunteer at certain places and if they are shame on them. Besides you can always volunteer with your clique so you can pass the time and get the job done faster. The only things major that you would have to do in that type of situation is keep your priorities in order and don’t pick something that you would loath doing. You basically don’t have to make volunteering a chore that you dread, but something that could give you a great experience.
Let’s think what would happen if you don’t decide to volunteer or do something kind, for one, you wouldn’t graduate unless you try to find some way around it. Another is that people wouldn’t help you since you made no attempt to help them or be kind to them. Next, it could be the fact you could get a higher acceptance rate with colleges since they like the fact that you’re willing to help others and can juggles different types of things. Karma is another to this as well because if you do something good a good thing can happen to you and in this unfair world we need all the good things we can get. It will show you a great work ethic as well. If you think about it volunteering is just like working, but instead of being paid you gain insight, community service, and you can see how lucky you truly are.
Just as a scene from The Great Debaters said (The look at eyes of a child’s stomach swollen from hunger is unbearable). It fills me despair and rage to see other with no home or food and to see people defile places just because they feel like it. We might as well volunteer because it can be harmless to us and good for others and our environment.
